Our Year 3 maths support is designed to meet your child at the right level, whether they need help with number facts, fractions, problem solving, measurement or geometry. • Building confidence
  • Ready for extension

  • Learning from home
  • Preparing for NAPLAN and exams

Assessment first

We start with an assessment to understand your child’s current maths level, identify any gaps in understanding across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, and see where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan tailored to their needs.

Personalised Learning Plans

Your child’s personalised learning plan is delivered weekly and can be completed at home on a tablet or computer. Each Monday, new 20-minute maths lessons are added based on your child’s progress, helping keep learning at the right level and supporting a consistent learning routine.

Proven Progress

As your child strengthens their foundations, you’ll see them build skills and confidence in maths, and keep moving forward at a pace that feels right for them.

Expert Tutors Available

If your child needs extra support, our online maths tutors are there to explain concepts further and answer questions, so your child can continue with confidence.

Year 3 Maths: What’s Covered and How We Help

Year 3 maths covers a range of skills across the Australian Curriculum. The overview below shows some of the key areas introduced during the year, and how Kinetic Education can support your child with them. Every child starts from a different point, so we begin with an assessment and create a personalised learning plan based on their current level.

This means your child is always working through curriculum-aligned lessons, at a pace that suits them.

Area
What Year 3 Maths Covers
How Kinetic Helps
Number skills
Addition, subtraction, multiplication facts and division strategies.
We identify the areas your child is confident in and where they may need more practice, then adjust their weekly lesson plan to suit.
Fractions
Recognising, comparing and working with simple fractions.
Fractions are broken into clear, manageable steps so children can build understanding before moving ahead.
Problem solving
Reading questions carefully, choosing the right operation and applying maths in context.
Your child works through activities that help them understand what a question is asking, not just find the answer.
Measurement and geometry
Time, length, area, angles, shapes, maps and position.
Lessons reinforce these skills with clear explanations, examples and instant feedback.
Statistics and data
Collecting, reading and interpreting simple data.
We help children practise these skills in a way that builds confidence and strengthens their understanding.
NAPLAN skills
Number, measurement, space, statistics and problem-solving questions similar to what children may see in NAPLAN.
We focus on strengthening the maths skills behind the questions, so your child feels more prepared.

Melanie

After years of struggling with maths, Melanie’s daughter boosted her grades and confidence in just a few months with Kinetic Education. She has made so much progress that her new teacher didn’t even realise she had struggled with maths in the past.

Louise

Louise’s daughters started the school year feeling anxious to go to class, worried they wouldn’t understand maths concepts. But in just 4 months, their confidence has grown, and they are now happy to go to maths classes at school. Not only this, but their school reports and grades have boosted, but most importantly their confidence has too!

Rosie

Rosie came to Kinetic Education looking for support for her two children, who both needed completely different support. Her daughter was really struggling with maths, and homework time was always stressful, while her son was one step ahead at school and starting to feel bored. With support from us, Rosie’s daughter is now able to work through new concepts confidently, and her son gets the challenges he needs to stay one step ahead.

Year 3 Maths Tutoring Starts with Identifying Your Child’s Level

When your child gets started with Kinetic Education, their first step is completing our Maths Doctor assessment. This checks their maths skills across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, helping us understand how they are going with key areas such as number skills, fractions, problem solving, measurement and geometry.

The assessment takes up to 45 minutes and gives you a clear picture of their current skills, including where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan, so your child can work through the curriculum at the right pace for them.

Personalised learning

Every Monday, we update your child's learning plan with new maths activities for the week, selected based on their assessment results and progress. Your child’s learning plan is structured around three learning stages: Revision and Catch-Up, Consolidation, and Extension.

Revision and Catch-Up

When your child first starts with Kinetic Education, their learning plan targets the knowledge gaps identified in their assessment. For Year 3 students, this may include revisiting earlier number skills, place value, addition, subtraction or the early multiplication concepts they need before moving into more complex work.

Consolidation

Once their foundations are stronger, your child practises the skills being covered in Year 3 maths. This may include multiplication and division facts, fractions, measurement, geometry and problem solving.

Extension

When your child is feeling confident in Year 3 maths, we give them the opportunity to move one step ahead, including working beyond their current year level while still moving at a pace that works for them.

Real Maths Tutors for Year 3 Students

Year 3 can be a big year for many families, especially with NAPLAN introduced for the first time. When your family joins Kinetic Education, you are matched with a tutor who helps your child get off to a strong start, while overseeing their personalised learning plan and keeping an eye on their progress each week. Each activity is designed to teach your child, give them instant feedback and help them build confidence as they move through the curriculum.

We also know that sometimes children need a little extra help or encouragement. That is where our maths tutors step in. If your child needs support with a Year 3 maths concept, their tutor can guide them using screen sharing and a digital whiteboard, helping them understand the task and feel more confident tackling the next one on their own.

Our tutors are also here for parents. You can speak with your tutor about your child’s learning needs, progress and weekly reports, so you know how they are going and what they are working on next.

Tutor support includes:

  • Tutor support available up to 10 hours per week, at no extra charge
  • Screen sharing and digital whiteboard support to help explain concepts clearly
  • Guidance for parents on progress, learning needs and weekly reports

Rewards

We know that sometimes children don’t understand why they need to do extra maths work at home, and they might need a bit of extra motivation. That’s why every child enrolled with us gets to experience our unique rewards system.

Here’s how it works: your child earns points after every maths activity, which they can save up and swap for real rewards like Smiggle, Myer, and WISH gift cards.

Supporting Your Child Through Year 3 NAPLAN

Year 3 is the first time children take part in NAPLAN, which can make this year feel a little different for families. At Kinetic Education, we help children strengthen the maths skills they use across the curriculum, so they can approach NAPLAN with confidence.

With NAPLAN completed online, our digital learning environment helps children become more comfortable reading, working through and answering questions in a digital format. Their weekly lesson plan gives them regular practice with interactive activities, clear explanations and instant feedback, while still focusing on real maths understanding.

Skill-building first

We focus on the maths behind the questions, including number skills, problem solving, measurement and geometry.

Support at the Right Level

Your child’s personalised learning plan is tailored to their needs and set at a level that suits them, with clear explanations, instant feedback and tutor support when they need it.

Online learning practice

As your child completes activities online, they become more familiar with reading, working through and answering questions in a digital format, while strengthening the skills they need for Year 3 maths.

Support beyond the test

The goal is stronger maths understanding, not just NAPLAN practice. Your child’s personalised learning plan helps them keep building skills throughout the year, at a pace that suits them.

Give Your Child the Support They Need to Feel Confident in Maths

When children are finding maths hard, it can affect more than their schoolwork. It can impact their confidence, motivation and willingness to try.

Kinetic Education helps children rebuild confidence by starting at the level that is right for them. Through targeted assessment, personalised learning and tutor support, your child can strengthen key maths skills, close learning gaps and feel more capable as they move through Year 3.

Wonderful resource for extra help!

I have my two 8 year old daughters (grade 3) using the tutoring program with Kinetic Education and while they are both similar in their needs, each of their programs are individually suited. The work is just tricky enough to allow them to further their knowledge and development in the areas that they need help with, yet not so hard that they feel deflated because they can't do it. My girls feel confident doing their lessons and can do them quite independently. They are also seeing the similarities from the tutoring lessons to those that they are doing in class. This online tutoring program allows for families to be able to work your child's tutoring into busy schedules, doing them at their own pace. The tutors are always available if extra help is needed and they consitently follow up with families about your child's progress and needs.

Improvement and excitement through the program!

My son was falling behind in English half way through grade 3 when we started Kinetic - I chose to do both English and maths so it wouldn’t be too difficult to get him to do the work. The reward system is amazing and so motivating. He comes home every night and does Kinetic before his school homework as is so engaging and I don't have to do a thing as tutors and the program guides the learning so well. My son is now about to start grade 5 work in English and feels so much more confident at school and is so proud of himself and we only started the program one year ago. Highly recommend and feel confident that he is now excelling and loves English at school. Well done team.

Kinetic Education has been a game changer for my kids.

Kinetic Education has been a game changer for my kids, aged 11 (Year 6) and 8 (Year 3). Both have shown excellent improvement in their academics since starting the program. The structured lessons are tailored to each child's individual needs, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach. My kids find the learning experience fun and engaging, and it never feels like a burden. Highly recommend Kinetic Education for any parent looking to support their children's education!

Year 3 Maths Tutoring FAQs

Is Year 3 a good time to start maths tutoring?

Yes. Year 3 is a great time to understand where your child is up to, especially as new maths concepts become more involved and NAPLAN is introduced for the first time. Starting support in Year 3 can help children build confidence, strengthen key skills and keep moving forward at a pace that suits them.

What does a typical week look like for a Year 3 student?

Each Monday, your child's learning plan is updated with new maths activities for the week. The lessons are designed to take around 15 to 20 minutes a day - short enough to fit around school, sport and family life, but consistent enough to make a real difference over time.
Your child works through their activities on a tablet or computer, at whatever time works best for your family. Each lesson includes clear explanations, examples and instant feedback, so your child isn't just practising, they're learning as they go.
If they get stuck on something, they can contact their tutor for support after school Monday to Thursday. You'll also receive a weekly progress report so you can see exactly what they worked on and how they went.

What if my child is finding Year 3 maths hard?

That is exactly what our Maths Doctor assessment is designed to help with. It checks your child’s skills across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, so we can see where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan matched to their level.

What if my child is already confident in Year 3 maths?

Kinetic Education can support children who are ready for extension too. If your child is confident with their current work, their personalised learning plan can move them into more challenging activities so they can keep progressing.

Can Kinetic Education help with Year 3 NAPLAN?

Yes. Kinetic Education helps children strengthen the maths skills they may use during NAPLAN, including number skills, problem solving, measurement, geometry and data. We focus on building real maths understanding, while also helping children become more comfortable working through questions in a digital format.
