Meet Jacqueline's Family

Jacqueline came to Kinetic Education looking for extra learning support for her daughter, Leandri.

In 2019, their family moved to Australia from South Africa when Leandri was just five years old. With Afrikaans being the main language spoken at home, Leandri started school knowing very little English. She only really knew how to say hello and goodbye!

Although Leandri settled into school quite well, she was still learning how to speak, read and write in English. Her brother even had to help translate for her at school sometimes.

The school was fantastic in helping Leandri, but Jacqueline knew she needed some extra support, especially as the whole family was still getting used to Australian English.

When Jacqueline first spoke to our team, she had a feeling Kinetic Education was exactly what Leandri needed. Looking back at how far her daughter has come, she's so glad they made the decision to get that extra help.

How Have the Assessments Helped Identify Leandri's Learning Needs?

When Leandri completed her first assessment with Kinetic Education, Jacqueline was really impressed by how detailed the results were. She could see exactly where Leandri was at with her learning, including any gaps and the areas she needed some extra help with.

These results helped us develop Leandri's personalised learning plan, making sure her lessons focused on the areas where she needed the most support.

Even now, Jacqueline loves being able to see how Leandri is progressing through her assessments. She shares the results with Leandri too, as they're presented in a way that's easy for younger learners to understand. This means Leandri can see for herself how she's going and which areas she might need to practise a little more.

Jacqueline likes to stay in the background while Leandri completes her lessons and assessments. She'll help if Leandri comes across an English word she doesn't understand, but otherwise lets her work through everything independently.

For Jacqueline, it's been really helpful to know exactly where Leandri is at with her learning, and for Leandri to be able to see her own progress and understand what she still needs to work on.

How Our Assessment Works

When your child starts with Kinetic Education, we assess them across key areas of the Australian Curriculum to understand where their learning currently sits. From there, we provide a clear report that helps you see what they have already achieved, where support may be needed, and what they are ready to work on next.

Your child’s initial assessment, ongoing assessments, and weekly progress help guide their weekly lesson plan, so it is always targeted to their needs.

Why Has It Been Important to Address Leandri's Learning Gaps?

Jacqueline compares learning to climbing a ladder. You can't start halfway up! You need to start at the bottom and work your way up. That's why she knew it was important for Leandri to go back and fill in the gaps in her learning.

When Leandri moved to Australia, she had missed kindergarten and part of Year 1, which meant there were some foundational skills she hadn't had the chance to develop.

With Kinetic Education, Leandri has been able to go back over those earlier skills and gradually fill in the gaps, rather than jumping ahead before she's ready.

Now that Leandri is in Year 6, Jacqueline loves being able to look at her Maths Doctor assessment results and see just how far she's come. Some of those gaps have only recently been filled, but she's glad they took the time to work on them, as they've helped Leandri get to where she is today.

How Have the Lessons Supported Leandri as a Bilingual Learner?

One of the things that has made a big difference for Leandri is being able to go through her lessons at her own pace, especially as she's learning English as a second language.

If there's something she doesn't quite understand, she can go back and listen to the tutorial again as many times as she needs. She can pause, write things down and make sure she understands what's being explained before moving on.

Being able to pause and revisit lessons is especially helpful for children learning English as a second language, but it's something all learners can benefit from. There's no need to keep up with a set lesson time, so they can spend as long as they need understanding something before moving on.

“We have seen great progress in his maths results!”

“Our child has been with Kinetic Education for the past two years, and we have seen great progress in his math results, as well as positive reviews in parent-teacher meetings. Kinetic Education has given him extra confidence through math assessments, and the small math games have boosted his self-esteem.”

What Changes Have You Seen in Leandri's Learning?

The biggest change Jacqueline has noticed since Leandri started Kinetic Education is how much more confident she's become.

When Leandri first moved to Australia, she knew very little English. Now, she's bilingual and has come so far with her understanding of the language.

Having lessons tailored to her learning needs, with the freedom to go back over anything she doesn't understand, has given Leandri the opportunity to build her skills at a pace that works for her.

Jacqueline says Leandri's school has been fantastic, but she also knew her daughter needed extra support. As much as she and her family wanted to help Leandri with her learning, she doesn't think they could have got her to where she is today without Kinetic Education.

How Does Kinetic Education Fit Into Leandri's Routine?

For Jacqueline's family, fitting Kinetic Education into their afternoons has been really easy.

Leandri usually gets home from school around 3:15 pm. Once she's put her school bag away and had something to eat, she's ready to get started on her Kinetic Education lessons.

Jacqueline says she's never had any trouble getting Leandri to do her lessons. Even on afternoons when she's tired from school, she still gets straight into them without any fuss.

For Leandri, learning with Kinetic Education is something she finds easy and enjoyable, which has made it a natural part of her after-school routine.

What Has Leandri's Progress Meant to Your Family?

When Jacqueline thinks about how far Leandri has come since moving to Australia, it's her confidence that she's most proud of.

Learning English as a second language wasn't easy, especially while settling into a new country and starting school. Jacqueline says all she ever wanted was for Leandri to have confidence in herself, and she's so happy to see how much that's changed over the years.

Jacqueline describes Kinetic Education as a real game changer for their family. She's incredibly thankful for the extra help Leandri has received and says she wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to other parents.

Now that Leandri has come so far with her learning, Jacqueline is looking forward to seeing what she achieves next!

“Kinetic Education has been the best decision for my kids!”

“Kinetic Education has been the best decision for my kids! Both of them are currently working above their grade level which is a massive improvement from where they were 10 months ago. It’s so convenient and interactive and the kids enjoy the learning! My daughter has had 7 teachers at school this year but kept up academically thanks to Kinetic. My son is off to high school next year and I feel confident he is as ready as he can be.”

Common Questions About Our Tutoring

What if my child has missed important learning while moving schools or countries?

Moving to a new school or country can sometimes mean children miss certain topics or have gaps in their learning.

At Kinetic Education, we use our assessment process to identify the skills your child already understands and any areas where they might need extra help. We then use these results to develop a personalised learning plan that helps them revisit earlier skills and build stronger foundations before moving on to more challenging topics.

How can I see whether my child is making progress?

Parents receive weekly progress reports and feedback from their child's tutor, so they can see what their child has been working on and how they're going.

Ongoing assessments also help show which learning gaps have been addressed and where additional support may still be needed. As Jacqueline shares in her story, these results can also be a great way to involve children in understanding their own learning.

How much time does my child need to spend on Kinetic Education each week?

Most children complete around three to four short lessons each week, usually taking about 15 to 20 minutes per session.

Lessons can be completed at home whenever suits your family, making it easier to fit learning around school, other activities and family time. Your child's tutor can also adjust their weekly learning plan depending on their needs.

Does my child need to be working at their school year level to get started?

Not at all! Every child starts at a different point, and their learning plan is based on what they need rather than simply following their school year level.

Some children may need to revisit skills from earlier years, while others might be ready for more challenging work. Our tutors regularly review each child's progress and adjust their learning plan as needed.

We're glad to have found them.

Kinetic Education became our life saver after an extended oversea travel which left my children bereft of Australian curriculum. Few months into the program, they were able to bounce back and in time for their Naplan. Graeme sent some Naplan prep tests ahead of Naplan. The tutors always called to check, the reports always on time, and the live support, excellent. Btw, Naplan results are just out and they excelled!

Within 3 months we can see the difference.

We found Kinetic online and went with it as this was the only platform which knew about kids on ASD High functioning activities. My son and Daughter got on the program and within 3 months we can see the difference where both of them had no difficulty doing their NAPLAN this year. Its 15 minutes a day gives the children an edge at school. Communication is great with regular calls and checkups from tutor and admin. Highly recommend.

We couldn’t be happier with how the kids are progressing.

We couldn’t be happier with how the kids are progressing. We’ve seen our daughter (who was really struggling with maths and English start to enjoy learning again. The team at kinetic education are so attentive and in tune with how the kids are learning, adjusting the weekly lessons to balance confidence and progression. This years NAPLAN result has been so encouraging and I think it comes from the confidence she’s developed from kinetic. Our son, who loves learning is being consistently challenged and we have watched his learning surpass his year level! It’s so nice to be able to get a handle on how the kids are going with their education.
