Understanding Your Child's Level

When your child gets started with Kinetic Education, our English tutors begin by identifying their current level against the Australian Curriculum. This helps us understand the skills they've mastered and where they need the most support right now. From there, we create a personalised learning plan tailored to your child's needs.

Personalised Learning Plans

Your child's personalised learning plan is delivered weekly and can be completed at home on a tablet or computer. New 20-minute English lessons are added based on your child's progress, helping keep learning at the right level and supporting a consistent learning routine.

Proven Progress

As your child strengthens their foundations, you'll see them build skills and confidence in reading and writing, and keep moving forward at a pace that feels right for them.

English Tutor Support

Every family is matched with an English tutor who oversees their child's personalised learning plan and progress. Tutors also provide additional support with writing tasks, including planning, structure, grammar, punctuation and feedback on each draft.

Year 1 English: What's Covered and How We Help

Year 1 English builds on the phonics and early reading started in Foundation. The overview below shows some of the key areas your child works on during the year, and how Kinetic Education can support them. Every child starts from a different point, so their personalised learning plan is tailored to their current level and continues to adapt based on their progress and results.

This means your child is always working through curriculum-aligned lessons, at a pace that suits them.

Melanie

After years of struggling with maths, Melanie’s daughter boosted her grades and confidence in just a few months with Kinetic Education. She has made so much progress that her new teacher didn’t even realise she had struggled with maths in the past.

Louise

Louise’s daughters started the school year feeling anxious to go to class, worried they wouldn’t understand maths concepts. But in just 4 months, their confidence has grown, and they are now happy to go to maths classes at school. Not only this, but their school reports and grades have boosted, but most importantly their confidence has too!

Rosie

Rosie came to Kinetic Education looking for support for her two children, who both needed completely different support. Her daughter was really struggling with maths, and homework time was always stressful, while her son was one step ahead at school and starting to feel bored. With support from us, Rosie’s daughter is now able to work through new concepts confidently, and her son gets the challenges he needs to stay one step ahead.

Year 1 English Tutoring Starts with Identifying Your Child’s Level

When your child gets started with Kinetic Education, we begin by identifying where they are currently working in English, including sentence building, reading fluency and early comprehension. This helps us see where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan, so your child can work through the curriculum at the right pace for them.

Personalised learning

We update your child's learning plan with new English activities for the week, selected based on their progress each week. Your child's learning plan is structured around three learning stages: Revision and Catch-Up, Consolidation, and Extension.

Revision and Catch-Up

When your child first starts with Kinetic Education, their learning plan begins with the early English skills they need most support with. For Year 1 students, this may include revisiting letter sounds, blending or sight words from Foundation.

Consolidation

Once their foundations are stronger, your child practises the skills being covered in Year 1 English. This may include sentence building, reading fluency, rhyming and early comprehension.

Extension

When your child is feeling confident in Year 1 English, we give them the opportunity to move one step ahead, while still working at a pace that suits them.

Real English Tutors for Year 1 Students

Year 1 is when reading and writing really start to take shape, so it helps to have consistent support along the way. When your family joins Kinetic Education, you are matched with a tutor who helps your child get off to a strong start, while overseeing their personalised learning plan and keeping an eye on their progress each week. Each activity is designed to teach your child, give them instant feedback and help them build confidence as they move through the curriculum.

Our English tutors also provide additional support with writing tasks. If your child is working on a piece of writing, their tutor can give feedback on planning, structure, grammar, punctuation and clarity, helping them improve their next draft with confidence.

Our tutors are also here for parents. You can speak with your tutor about your child's learning needs, progress and weekly reports, so you know how they are going and what they are working on next.

Tutor support includes:

  • A dedicated English tutor matched with your family
  • Oversight of your child's personalised learning plan
  • Feedback on writing tasks, including planning, structure, grammar, punctuation and clarity

I recommend this program to all my friends and family.

We were recommended kinetic through a friend and initially I thought it was a silly idea. Given my son was just starting school. But now at grade 1 he is doing grade 4/5 work and thriving in the classroom. Most importantly he has the confidence I never had with school. He has no educational gaps shown through the maths doctor test the company does. I recommend this program to all my friends and family. It’s such an affordable price and if things do get tough money wise you can pause for x amount of time a year. Couldn’t recommend enough. Thanks again Kinetic for advancing my child.

Kinetic Education is a well structured program with excellent support from the knowledgeable tutors. I am impressed with the assessments, which give me an excellent picture of how my child (grade 1) is learning, and they find the lessons fun and simple to navigate. I am also very pleased with how my child has progressed.

My children love doing Kinetic Education.

Kinetic has been so good for both my children, who are in Grade 1 & 4. We have seen growth in their literacy and numeracy, however exceptional growth in numeracy and their reports are evident of this. My children love doing Kinetic Education and find lessons doable to complete independently. The points and vouchers are a great incentive too.

Kinetic Eduction has proved to being a terrific program for our 6 year old daughter.

Kinetic eduction has proved to being a terrific program for our 6 year old daughter (year 1). The program is tailored to her specific needs, addressing any gaps in her skills and knowledge. Within 6 months into the program, our daughter is working within grade 2 skill sets and thriving at each weekly lesson. Not only this, she thoroughly enjoys the lessons! We feel because the program is tailored to the students individual needs and goals, they're more engaged and focused. We receive regular follow phone calls to discuss our daughters progress and discuss future opportunities and or queries. We haven't required the tutoring service yet, however feel confident enough to do so when the time comes. Safe to say, our other children will be enrolling within the next year.

Year 1 English Tutoring FAQs

Is Year 1 a good time to start English tutoring?

Yes. Year 1 is when sentence building and early reading fluency really start to develop, so it's a helpful time to check how your child is going and build confidence early.

What does a typical week look like for a Year 1 student?

Your child's learning plan is updated with new English activities for the week. The lessons are designed to take around 15 to 20 minutes a day, short enough to fit around school and family life, but consistent enough to make a real difference over time. Your child works through their activities on a tablet or computer, at whatever time works best for your family. Each lesson includes clear explanations, examples and instant feedback. You'll also receive a weekly progress report so you can see exactly what they worked on and how they went.

What if my child is finding reading and writing hard?

We check your child's English skills to understand where they may need more support and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, their personalised weekly learning plan is matched to their level, helping them strengthen key skills and build confidence as they continue through the curriculum.

What if my child is already reading confidently?

Kinetic Education can support children who are ready for extension too. If your child is confident with their current work, their personalised learning plan can move them into more challenging activities so they can keep progressing.

Will Year 1 English help my child prepare for Year 2?

Yes. Year 1 is about strengthening the sentence building and reading fluency that Year 2 English builds on. We focus on making sure these skills are solid, so your child can move into Year 2 with confidence.
