How We Help Your Child Feel More Confident with Persuasive Writing and Text Response

Persuasive writing and text response essays build gradually. A child may be comfortable giving a simple opinion, then feel stuck when asked to structure a full paragraph, support a position with evidence, or respond to an unfamiliar text under time pressure.

What feels like "not knowing what to write" is often really a structure and confidence problem, not knowing how to build an argument or organise a response, rather than a lack of ideas. As essay tasks get longer and more analytical, this gap can make writing feel harder than it needs to.

That is why identifying exactly where your child needs support matters.

We help your child begin at the right level, strengthen essay structure and argument skills they may have missed, and build the confidence they need to write well-supported responses.

Understanding Your Child's Level

When your child gets started with Kinetic Education, our English tutors begin by identifying their current level against the Australian Curriculum. This helps us understand the skills they've mastered and where they need the most support right now. From there, we create a personalised learning plan tailored to your child's needs.

Personalised Learning Plans

Your child's personalised learning plan is delivered weekly and can be completed at home on a tablet or computer. New 20-minute English lessons are added based on your child's progress, helping keep learning at the right level and supporting a consistent learning routine.

Proven Progress

As your child strengthens their foundations, you'll see them build skills and confidence in reading and writing, and keep moving forward at a pace that feels right for them.

English Tutor Support

Every family is matched with an English tutor who oversees their child's personalised learning plan and progress. Tutors also provide additional support with writing tasks, including planning, structure, grammar, punctuation and feedback on each draft.

Persuasive Writing and Text Response: What's Covered and How We Help

Persuasive writing and text response essays build across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, growing steadily more demanding each year. The overview below shows how these skills develop over time and how Kinetic Education can support your child at each stage.

Every child starts from a different point, so their personalised learning plan is tailored to their current level and continues to adapt based on their progress and results.

Year Level
What the Curriculum Covers
How Kinetic Helps
Foundation – Year 2
An early introduction to persuasive writing, giving a simple opinion with a reason, alongside basic narrative structure.
We help your child practise giving and supporting a simple opinion, laying the groundwork for later persuasive writing.
Year 3 – Year 4
Persuasive essay structure introduced formally, moving beyond overused words, and an early introduction to text response ideas.
We break persuasive writing into manageable stages, from forming an opinion through to structuring paragraphs.
Year 5 – Year 6
More developed persuasive writing, using words other than overused ones, and descriptive techniques used persuasively, such as hyperbole and repetition.
Your child builds persuasive writing confidence step by step, adding stronger vocabulary and technique to their arguments.
Year 7 – Year 8
An introduction to text response essays, including forming and explaining a position (a contention) on a text, supported by evidence.
We break essay writing into manageable stages, from forming a contention through to supporting it with evidence.
Year 9 – Year 10
Structuring a complete text response essay, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and identifying and explaining language techniques.
We help your child plan, structure and refine full essays, building the skills senior English essay writing relies on.

English Tutoring Starts with Identifying Your Child’s Level

When your child gets started with Kinetic Education, we begin by identifying where they are currently working in English, including phonics, blending and early reading. This helps us see where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan, so your child can work through the curriculum at the right pace for them.

Personalised learning

We update your child's learning plan with new English activities for the week, selected based on their progress each week. Their learning plan moves through three stages: Revision and Catch-Up, Consolidation, and Extension.

Revision and Catch-Up

When your child first starts with Kinetic Education, their learning plan targets the areas they need the most support with. This may mean revisiting earlier sentence writing or narrative structure and strengthening the foundations they need before moving into more complex work.

Consolidation

As your child builds their understanding, their learning plan continues to reinforce the writing skills they are currently working on, helping them structure and describe their stories with more confidence.

Extension

When your child is ready to move ahead, their learning plan introduces more challenging creative writing tasks, helping them extend their understanding at a pace that suits them.

Personalised Learning with Real Tutor Support

Creative writing can become difficult when a child isn't sure how to structure or start a story. When your family joins Kinetic Education, you are matched with a tutor who helps your child get off to a strong start, oversees their personalised learning plan and keeps an eye on their progress each week.

Each activity is designed to teach your child step by step, provide instant feedback and help them build confidence as they work through narrative and creative writing.

Our English tutors also provide additional support with writing tasks. If your child is working on a piece of writing, their tutor can give feedback on planning, structure, grammar, punctuation and clarity, helping them improve their next draft with confidence.

Our tutors are also here for parents. You can speak with your tutor about your child's learning needs, progress and weekly reports, so you know how they are going and what they are working on next.

Tutor support includes:

  • A dedicated English tutor matched with your family
  • Oversight of your child's personalised learning plan
  • Feedback on writing tasks, including planning, structure, grammar, punctuation and clarity
  • Guidance for parents on progress, learning needs and weekly reports

FAQs

My child is in Year 7 and really struggles with text response essays. Will Kinetic Education help identify and fill any earlier gaps?

Yes, this is exactly the kind of thing we look for. If your child's difficulty traces back to earlier paragraph structure or persuasive writing skills, their learning plan will address that first.

Will this help my child prepare for NAPLAN?

Persuasive writing is one of the writing genres NAPLAN can assess in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Because our tutoring builds real essay structure and argument skills aligned to the Australian Curriculum, children who learn with Kinetic Education tend to approach writing tasks, including NAPLAN, with more confidence.

My child is in Year 9 and still finds essay structure hard. Is it too late to fix the foundations?

Not at all. We identify where the gap originated, whether that's paragraph structure from Year 5 or contention writing from Year 7, and their learning plan addresses it from that point.

How is persuasive writing and text response content delivered?

Through interactive lessons and guided writing tasks designed to teach your child at the right level, with clear examples, worked essay structures and instant feedback. When your child needs more than the lesson provides, their tutor is available to give feedback and guidance on their written work.

How much does it cost?

Kinetic Education's English support covers persuasive writing and text response, along with the other key areas of the Australian English curriculum. It starts from $29 per week for the family, and your first two weeks are free.

Can I speak to someone about my child's specific needs before getting started?

Yes. When you book your free demonstration, we'll chat about how your child is currently going with essay writing, what they're finding difficult, and how Kinetic Education could support them.
