Our Year 1 maths support is designed to meet your child at the right level, whether they need help with counting, addition and subtraction, shapes, time or money. Their personalised learning plan helps them strengthen key skills, build confidence and keep moving forward at a pace that works for them. For children who are ready for more, learning can extend one step ahead, while still keeping the pace right for them.
We start with an assessment to understand your child’s current maths level, identify any gaps in understanding across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, and see where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan tailored to their needs.
Your child’s personalised learning plan is delivered weekly and can be completed at home on a tablet or computer. Each Monday, new 20-minute maths lessons are added based on your child’s progress, helping keep learning at the right level and supporting a consistent learning routine.
As your child strengthens their foundations, you’ll see them build skills and confidence in maths, and keep moving forward at a pace that feels right for them.
If your child needs extra support, our online maths tutors are there to explain concepts further and answer questions, so your child can continue with confidence.
When your child gets started with Kinetic Education, their first step is completing our Maths Doctor assessment. This checks their maths skills across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, helping us understand how they are going with key areas such as number skills, fractions, problem solving, measurement and geometry.
The assessment takes up to 45 minutes and gives you a clear picture of their current skills, including where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan, so your child can work through the curriculum at the right pace for them.
Every Monday, we update your child's learning plan with new maths activities for the week, selected based on their assessment results and progress. For Year 1 students, their learning plan is structured around three learning stages: Revision and Catch-Up, Consolidation, and Extension.
When your child first starts with Kinetic Education, their learning plan targets the knowledge gaps identified in their assessment. For Year 1 students, this may include revisiting early number skills, counting forwards and backwards, recognising numbers, place value, simple addition and subtraction, and early patterns before moving into more complex work.
Once their foundations are stronger, your child practises the skills being covered in Year 1 maths. This may include counting and ordering numbers, understanding tens and ones, adding and taking away within 20, skip counting, shape, position, time and money.
When your child is feeling confident in Year 1 maths, we give them the opportunity to move one step ahead, including working beyond their current year level while still moving at a pace that works for them.
Year 1 is an important stage for building early maths confidence, as children begin developing the number skills they will use for years to come. When your family joins Kinetic Education, you are matched with a tutor who helps your child get off to a strong start, while overseeing their personalised learning plan and keeping an eye on their progress each week. Each activity is designed to teach your child, give them instant feedback and help them build confidence as they move through the curriculum.
We also know that sometimes children need a little extra help or encouragement. That is where our maths tutors step in. If your child needs support with a Year 1 maths concept, their tutor can guide them using screen sharing and a digital whiteboard, helping them understand the task and feel more confident tackling the next one on their own.

Within 6 months into the program, our daughter is working within grade 2 skill sets and thriving at each weekly lesson. Not only this, she thoroughly enjoys the lessons! We feel because the program is tailored to the students individual needs and goals, they're more engaged and focused. If they get stuck on something, they can contact their tutor for support after school Monday to Thursday. You'll also receive a weekly progress report so you can see exactly what they worked on and how they went.
