Kinetic Education began in 1993, in a family home, with one child who needed help.
Mary Sanghvi, an experienced maths teacher and editor, and her husband Bharat, a maths graduate and computer programmer, found that their son was struggling at school. Years of hearing loss meant he had missed much of his early learning, and although a successful operation restored his hearing, the gaps were already there. Starting school was especially difficult.
So they built him something of their own. Mary and Bharat combined their experience to create simple computer-based lessons he could work through at his own pace. They were surprised by how quickly he began to understand new concepts.
The lessons worked. Other families heard about them and asked for them, and Kinetic Education grew from there. More than 30 years on we have supported over 100,000 Australian families, and the belief that started it hasn't changed: with the right support, any child can learn, whatever they are up against.
