Meet Lisa's Family

Families look into tutoring for all sorts of reasons, and it doesn't always mean their child is struggling. For some families, like Lisa's, it's about finding the right learning support to complement their homeschooling journey.

Lisa homeschools her two daughters, Molly, who is in Year 5, and Poppy, who is in Year 8. She wanted more flexibility, more time together as a family, and a way of learning that better suited the girls' needs.

Alongside the busy mornings, work and daily school rush, Lisa felt the girls weren't getting everything they could out of their education. She had also started noticing a few learning gaps that weren't being addressed and wanted to make sure they had the support they needed.

Having seen the positive impact of tutoring in the past, Lisa knew it would be a great addition to their homeschooling routine.

Finding the Right Support for Lisa's Family

At Kinetic Education, we want tutoring to work for your child and for them to feel supported every step of the way. That starts with our Education Consultant team and continues right through to your child's ongoing tutor support.

Our consultants first take the time to chat with you, learn more about your family and explain how we can help. As Lisa shared, Jon, her Education Consultant, was so knowledgeable, and his experience supporting families really shone through every time she spoke with him.

He asked about everything, from how Molly and Poppy found school to how they like to learn.

Taking the time to really understand your child is one of the ways we make sure their learning with us is tailored to them. It also helps our tutors understand how best to support your child with Maths and English.

What Stood Out During the Assessment?

At Kinetic Education, our assessment process helps uncover learning gaps that aren't always obvious, giving families a clearer picture of their child's strengths and where they need extra support.

This was something Lisa particularly loved! After their second assessment, she could see just how much progress Molly and Poppy had made since getting started.

Poppy was especially proud to see she'd closed her Year 3 and 4 learning gaps and was moving into Year 5 work. Meanwhile, Molly was already tackling Year 6 and even Year 7 topics!

For Lisa, being able to see their progress so clearly was a wonderful reminder of how much the girls were achieving through personalised learning.

How Our Assessment Works

When your child starts with Kinetic Education, we assess them across key areas of the Australian Curriculum to understand where their learning currently sits. From there, we provide a clear report that helps you see what they have already achieved, where support may be needed, and what they are ready to work on next.

Our reports help you see what your child has already achieved, where support may be needed, and what they are ready to work on next.

Understand Your Child’s Learning

Each area we assess is aligned with the Australian Curriculum, giving you a clear picture of where your child’s learning sits.

Know What Comes Next

Your child’s initial assessment, ongoing assessments, and weekly progress help guide their weekly lesson plan, so it is always targeted to their needs.

Why Is It Important to Fill Learning Gaps?

Lisa knew that Molly and Poppy had developed learning gaps during their time at school, and she was concerned that these weren't being addressed.

Learning gaps happen when a child hasn't fully understood or mastered something they've previously been taught. Because learning builds on what children already know, these gaps can make new topics harder to understand, even years later.

Over time, this can affect a child's confidence and leave them feeling frustrated or falling further behind. That's why Kinetic Education's assessment process is so important. It helps identify missing skills so children can strengthen their foundations and move forward with confidence.

For Lisa, seeing the girls' learning gaps go unaddressed at school was another reason she felt homeschooling was the right choice. She wanted Molly and Poppy to have the opportunity to fill those gaps and progress at a pace that suited them.

“This was fabulous to get us started for our homeschool journey.”

“The communication between you and the company/tutors is excellent. The material is very well designed to teach based on the Australian curriculum. My daughter responded well to the activities. The material is adjustable and relevant to the level my daughter is at. This was invaluable to us as we started our journey into homeschooling.”

How Valuable Are the Weekly Progress Reports?

Like so many parents, Lisa loves receiving the weekly progress reports from Kinetic Education. As a homeschooling mum, it's especially reassuring to have a clear picture of how Molly and Poppy are going with their learning.

Lisa mentioned how valuable it is to see the percentage achieved in each lesson, alongside the tutor's comments. It helps her understand what the girls have been working on, where they're doing really well, and which areas might need a little extra practice.

Rather than having to guess how they're progressing, Lisa can see their achievements each week and feel confident they're heading in the right direction. It's also a lovely way to celebrate their hard work and the little wins along the way!

How Does Tutor Support Work for Molly and Poppy?

Every Kinetic Education family is connected with a tutor to support them as they progress. While working through their personalised learning plan, students can reach out whenever they need a bit of extra help. Sometimes parents find their child feels supported enough within their learning plan that they don't often ask for help, and that's absolutely okay. Their tutor will still check in regularly to make sure everything is tracking well.

Our tutors work alongside each child's personalised learning plan, making adjustments as they progress. Sometimes children need to revisit a concept, and other times they're ready to move forward. Most changes happen naturally as part of the process, but we always welcome parents reaching out too.

As Lisa experienced with Poppy, she quickly began filling her learning gaps, and it was only natural that she started wanting more of a challenge and extra things to work on. Lisa shared that with just one phone call, their tutor stepped in with suggestions to better support both Molly and Poppy, so the learning continued to feel right for each of them!

Where Do Molly and Poppy Like to Study?

Homeschooling gives families the flexibility to create a learning environment that works for each child. And as Lisa has discovered, even children in the same family can have very different preferences!

Molly loves being around her family while she learns. She's happy having music playing and a bit of background noise while she works. Poppy, on the other hand, is the complete opposite! She prefers peace and quiet, somewhere calm where she can concentrate without distractions.

With Kinetic Education fitting into their homeschooling routine, both girls have the freedom to choose where they feel most comfortable learning, without having to follow the same approach.

It's another way Lisa can make sure Molly and Poppy's learning suits their individual needs.

A Confidence Boost for Poppy

For many parents, extra learning support isn't just about improving grades. It's also about seeing their child grow in confidence and start to feel proud of what they can achieve.

Poppy had been struggling with a particular concept because of a gap in her earlier learning. It was something she'd found difficult to understand at school, and the assessment process helped identify where she needed extra support.

When that same concept came up in her personalised learning plan with Kinetic Education, it was presented in a way that finally made sense to her!

That was Poppy's big "aha!" moment. After struggling with it for so long, she was so excited to finally understand something that had previously felt so difficult.

“It has given me peace of mind that I’m giving him the support he needs.”

“After struggling with my son, who has dyslexia, and not getting the support he needed at school, I decided to homeschool my children this year. I have been using Kinetic Education to help with English and Maths, and it has given me peace of mind that I’m giving him the support he needs. His confidence has improved. I have a happier boy. With our tutor checking in regularly, we can see the improvement. I’m so happy we decided to go this way.”

A Proud Moment for Molly

One of the things Lisa loves about Kinetic Education is the flexibility it gives the girls to learn at their own pace. There's no pressure to understand everything straight away or get an answer right there and then. They can take their time, have a break when they need one, and come back when they're ready.

Lisa saw just how valuable this was when Molly was struggling with algebra and starting to feel overwhelmed. Instead of pushing through, Lisa reminded her that it was okay to take a break and that her tutor was always there if she needed help.

That small reminder made a big difference! After stepping away for a little while, Molly came back feeling calmer and was able to work through the problem herself.

Telling Family and Friends About Kinetic Education

Lisa is so proud of how far Molly and Poppy have come, and she loves sharing their achievements with the people around her!

She's shown her sister-in-law and other family members how Kinetic Education works, but it's the assessments that she gets most excited about sharing.

After the girls completed their second assessment, Lisa couldn't wait to show their grandparents just how much progress they'd made. For family members who are more familiar with traditional schooling, being able to see those results made it easier to show how well homeschooling was working for Molly and Poppy.

“My 6-year-old has come leaps and bounds with his English, even though he has dyslexia and dyspraxia.”

“Can't recommend Kinetic enough! We homeschool both of our boys, and this program has added everything that they needed for Maths and English. My 6-year-old has come leaps and bounds with his English, even though he has dyslexia and dyspraxia. The tutor is awesome, monthly feedback is amazing, and the weekly reports go a long way! Thanks for everything you do, Kinetic!”

Common Questions About Our Homeschool Tutoring

How can Kinetic Education support homeschooled families?

Kinetic Education is designed to fit around your family's homeschooling routine, rather than requiring you to organise your day around set lesson times.

Whether your children prefer to complete their Maths and English lessons first thing in the morning, after lunch or later in the afternoon, they can log in and learn whenever it suits your family. Lessons typically take around 20 minutes, making them easy to fit between other homeschooling subjects, activities, outings and everyday commitments.

How do I know what level my homeschooled child should be working at?

Every child starts with an assessment process to help us understand their current skills, identify any learning gaps and recognise areas where they're ready to move ahead. This means your child can work at a level that suits their abilities, rather than being limited to work based solely on their age or year level.

Can my child learn at their own pace while homeschooling?

Absolutely! One of the biggest benefits of homeschooling is having the flexibility to adapt learning to your child's individual needs, interests and abilities. With Kinetic Education, children can work through their personalised Maths and English lessons at their own pace, without the pressure of keeping up with a class or moving on before they're ready.

How can I track my child's progress when homeschooling?

Kinetic Education provides detailed weekly progress reports, giving homeschooling parents a clear picture of what their child has been learning, how they're progressing and where they may need additional support.

Each report includes the lessons your child has completed, their achievement percentages and personalised comments from their tutor. This helps you see which concepts they're understanding well, identify areas they may still find challenging and celebrate the progress they're making along the way.

For homeschooling families, these reports can be particularly valuable as they provide regular insight into your child's Maths and English development without having to assess their understanding yourself.

What happens if my homeschooled child gets stuck on a lesson?

Every child receives a personalised weekly learning plan tailored to their current skill level, with interactive lessons designed to teach new concepts, strengthen their understanding and build on what they already know. Lessons include tutorials that introduce and explain concepts, along with helpful clues and hints to guide children through questions and activities. This allows them to develop their skills, practise what they're learning and build confidence as they work through each lesson.

If your child needs additional support, real Australian tutors are available after school, Monday to Thursday. Tutors can work through challenging concepts with your child using screen sharing and an interactive whiteboard, helping them understand where they are struggling and how to approach the question.

Your child's tutor also monitors their progress and adjusts their weekly learning plan as their needs change. This means they're always working towards the next learning goal, with the right level of support available when they need it.
